Elyse Senteney, an active performer and teacher, holds a master’s degree in flute performance from Baylor University and a bachelor's degree in music education from Ouachita Baptist University. She serves as Director of Bands at Jasper High School, where she directs the Wind Ensemble, Concert 1 Band, Full Orchestra, and Jaguar Marching Band.
In 2018, she served in the role of clinician at the Texas Music Educator's Association Convention, presenting on sight-reading and music literacy. Shortly thereafter she was published in The Journal of the Association for Concert Bands. She is devoted to a holistic approach in music education, training up musicians of all ages who are literate musicians. Elyse performed regularly with the Baylor Symphony Orchestra and the Baylor Wind Ensemble. She performed as co-principal flutist with the Baylor Wind Ensemble at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago and also as a member and co-principal flutist of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra at conventions for the College Orchestra Directors Association and at the Texas Music Educators Association. She conducted and performed with the Baylor Flute Ensemble. Elyse was the piccoloist for the Waco Symphony Orchestra and served as a member of the ensemble from 2013 to 2015. During her time at Ouachita Baptist University, she held principal positions with the Ouachita Baptist University Wind Ensemble for four years and principal flutist of the Arkansas Intercollegiate Band for three. She was the concerto competition winner and guest soloist with the Ouachita Wind Ensemble in 2012. As a musician dedicated to music education, Elyse has directed and taught music students of all ages in a variety of settings including clinics, large ensembles, chamber groups, methods classes, and private lessons. She loves to expand and share her knowledge of music through its many avenues, such as conducting, flute, piccolo, piano, voice, and other instruments. She has performed on alto saxophone and clarinet in the pit orchestra of various stage productions. With over twenty years of piano experience, she also teaches private piano lessons. She is an advocate for using music to enhance local communities and to equip its members with tools to be positive contributors to their sphere of influence. Elyse’s teachers include Francesca Arnone, Kristin Grant, Lance Sanford, and Debbie Lonsdorf. Her piano instructors include Colby Whitaker and Cindy Duren. Her conducting mentors include Jeremy Kondrat and Dr. Craig Hamilton. In her spare time, Elyse enjoys graphic design (see home page creation), kickboxing, swing dancing, and water skiing. |
